Preview of 2009 Legislative Session
Wednesday, February 11, 2009 is the official first day of the 2009 West Virginia Legislative session. That evening, the Governor will deliver his State of the State. I, too, have some large goals that I hope to achieve this session - in fact, I will be introducing more new bills than I ever have.
I am very excited about several new ideas I'll be advancing, many of them suggested by local citizens. Despite ominous economic clouds looming over our country and the globe, I am unusually optimistic about the chances of doing good in our state by passing legislation this year. There are three issues on which I will focus: 1) health care reform, 2) expanding services for our veterans, and 3) improving services for children and families.
I will be introducing several other new bills relating to topics such as the environment, nutrition, university governance, as well as re-introducing bills I sponsored in past years that didn't pass both houses. For bill numbers and more info as the session progresses, please see my website, www.FriendsofBarbara.com or the check out the legislative website, www.legis.state.wv.us.
