2009 LEGISLATIVE ISSUES
Health Care Reform
Approximately 250,000 West Virginians are without health care coverage, a tragic statistic. But this year, there is real hope that we will make changes at both the national and the state level to lower these numbers. First, we hope to expand medicaid coverage for working parents who earn up to 200% of poverty level. This is financially feasible because we receive a 3-1 match from the federal government. Likewise, we need to cut health care costs - in the United States we pay double the amount of other industrialized countries for our health care. One of the simpler ways to tackle this problem is to cut paperwork and administrative overhead. I will work hard to achieve both of these goals.
