2012 Legislative Session

Barbara in front of Charleston Capitol Building

The 2012 Legislative Session started on January 11, 2012 and ends on Saturday, March, 10, 2012 at midnight.  An unusually large number of bills that I sponsored are moving and some have already passed out of the House of Delegates.  My priority issues are listed on the opening page of this website.  I am pleased that I am making progress on each of them.  Whether bills actually pass both houses and are signed by the Governor may come down to the very last night of the session, so stay tuned.

Now you can stay informed by using your home or office computer.  Since last year, at the urging of our local Monongalia County House delegation, citizens can listen to House of Delegates floor sessions and committee meetings live.  Full audio coverage can by heard by going to the Legislature's website, www.legis.state.wv.us and then clicking onto "West Virginia Legislature Live" the streaming audio webcast of official proceedings.  The Senate joined the House in streaming its meetings this year.

Session for both the House and the Senate begins daily at 11:00 a.m. and committee meetings are scheduled before and after session each day.  Information about the Legislature's schedule, including committee meetings can be accessed by going to the Legislature's website, clicking onto Bulletin Board in the bottom left corner, then going to either House or Senate Committee Meetings.

I welcome visitors to our beautiful state capitol building.  If you are able to visit, I will do my very best to make sure your visit is meaningful.  Please let me know you are coming by contacting my assistant, Vicky Shears.  Children are especially welcome. One of my greatest pleasures is introducing pages to the rest of the Legislature and making sure they have a positive learning experience.  If you're making a visit or need to get in touch with me, please click contact.
