2010 Legislative Session
Wednesday, January 13, 2010 was the official first day of the 2010 West Virginia Legislative session. That evening, the Governor delivered his State of the State. I, too, have goals that I hope to achieve this session.
I am very excited about several new ideas I'll be advancing, many of them suggested by local citizens. Despite the state of the economy of our country and the globe, I remain optimistic about the chances of doing good in our state by passing legislation this year. There are four areas on which I will focus: 1) Good Jobs for a new Decade, 2) Making West Virginia more “Veteran Friendly”, 3) Combating Alzheimer's Disease and 4) Local issues.
On local issues, I will be introducing several bills relating to topics such as the roads, home rule, charity dental care, water quality as well as re-introducing bills I sponsored in past years that didn't pass both houses. For numbers of the bills I've sponsored this year and more information as the session progresses, please return to my website, www.FriendsofBarbara.com.
For the very first time, at the urging of our local delegation, citizens can listen to the House of Delegates floor sessions live. Full audio coverage for the four major committees can also be heard by clicking onto “West Virginia Legislature Live”, the streaming audio webcast of official proceedings. The Legislature's website is located at www.legis.state.wv.us.
